Block Printing – Slow textile printing
At the Industrial Home in Rawalpindi, a separate department caters to the ancient craft of block printing. Walk in and you’re bound to find pieces of unstitched fabric drying on countertops, while Nighat Mariyam, the department’s supervisor, carefully produces an intricate pattern – one after the other – with immaculate precision. Once the earthy tones and designs are completed, the fabric is then stitched into separates that can be mixed and matched to enhance the colours of the craft. We introduce new collections of block print apparel every season, and other crafts are often combined to create fusion pieces, such as; ralli and block printing. Even though that may seem like an unusual craft combination, it strikes the perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
